Rudersdal Summer Concerts unfolds as a concert series taking place at several different venues from 9 to 30 August.
Each year, Rudersdal Summer Concerts appoints a Danish and an international festival composer. This year’s Danish festival composer is Veronika Voetmann, whose music runs throughout the programme and can be heard alongside well-known classics.
The programme features five of Voetmann’s chamber works, performed at five different concerts. Among them is the world premiere of the piano quartet Mind Bourne, commissioned by Rudersdal Chamber Players.
In an interview, she shares her thoughts behind the work:
"Mind Bourne explores the inner journey. Previously, travelling meant venturing out into the world and becoming more educated through experience – the journey of personal development today, however, is often associated with an inner journey: being mindful, learning to understand one’s own mind, temperament, and so on.
Yet the mind is a curious thing, and it can be difficult or even impossible to control. The work therefore plays with the double meaning of the word bourne, which can refer both to a destination and to a boundary or limitation. In the work, we follow the development of an idea or thought that is constantly challenged by distractions, ends up at dead ends, or otherwise struggles to fulfil its full potential."
