The concert, taking place at the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts in Hyde Park, opened with the final movement of Nicolai Worsaae’s Wesenheit ab Wesenheit (2011 – voice, clarinet, percussion, double bass) and Du hast gesagt, vol. 3 (2014 – voice, electronics, double bass).
Following the concert, which also featured works by young composers from Poland, Slovenia, England and the Czech Republic, the Chicago Tribune called the programme “rare and exceptional”, while the Chicago Classical Review called Worsaae’s Wesenheit ab Wesenheit “a compelling evocation of the psychic desolation” experienced by the East German spy Jörg Meyer while held in solitary confinement in Denmark in the 1970s.
