Peter Heise (1830–1879) is probably best known for his songs and his opera Drot og Marsk (King and Marshal) but he also composed six string quartets. He composed them during the 1850s and have been rather unknown until now. Apparently Heise did not want them to be performed publicly, and only a few of them have been performed after Heise's death. DCM's critical edition, edited by Michael Fjeldsøe, makes them available in both score and parts.
The quartets were originally published by the Danish Centre for Music Publication of the Royal Library, now available as part of Edition·S’ DCM (Danish Classical Music) series.
