Morten Ladehoff World Premiere

On Saturday 4 May Athelas Sinfonietta will premiere Ladehoff's 5TÜCKW3RK at a concert also featuring pieces by Christian Winther Christensen, Mette Nielsen and Matias Vestergård.

In the concert series 'Danish dialogues', Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen commissions a new work from a Danish composer, who at the same time selects a work by another composer who has had a special impact on them. On Saturday 4 May, Athelas will premiere Morten Ladehoff's 5TÜCKW3RK written for the occasion – a work that plays with the idea of being a piece of music in pieces.

Ladehoff himself describes the work as a kind of autonomous sound factory, where musical processes are initiated but not completed, and where contours of delicate sonorous constructions arise, are played forwards and backwards, accelerated, cut up and interwoven. In the middle of this unpredictable and noisy universe is a core of poetic sensibility.

Ladehoff has selected the work Festmusik by Christian Winther Christensen: A composer whom Ladehoff particularly admires for his technically virtuoso instrumentation as well as his ability to contain an infinite number of nuances in the intersection between noise and tone. In Festmusik, for example, Ladehoff points to the almost kitschy delicacy with which the chord progressions emerge from the background of mechanical noise, as well as the almost Beethovenian way in which the work manages to hold the listener's attention.

The concert will also feature works by Mette Nielsen and Matias Vestergård. These are Mette Nielsen's Together for solo clarinet and string quartet and Matias Vestergård Hansen's Collapse and Collapse, which Hansen has cryptically described himself as a 'party-and-hangover' piece, and which will now have its Danish premiere. The concert is conducted by the experienced Japanese conductor Rei Munakata, who has a particular passion for the experimental corners of modern compositional music.

The concert takes place Saturday 4 May 4 pm at Musikhuset in Copenhagen.
