Svend Erik Tarp was a composer and a pupil of Finn Høffding, Knud Jeppesen, and Rudolf Simonsen. From 1936 to 42 he was a teacher at the Royal Academy of Music. From 1936 onwards he was connected to the opera school of the Royal Theatre, and from 1939 to 47 he was employed by the University of Copenhagen. In 1938 he became musical advisor, and from 1960 the general manager of KODA (The Danish Performing Right Society). From 1941 to 63 he was administrator of the Society for the Publication of Danish Music. His works include operas, ballets, film music, concertos, orchestral and chamber music, piano works, solo songs and choral works.
