At Edition·S we find it important to aim for a gender-balanced repertoire in the world of classical and new music.
Recent repertoire reports published in 2021 show a significant lack of diversity in the repertoire performed by Danish orchestras and ensembles, and at Danish music festivals and music societies. The reports initiated by the Danish Composers' Society, Edition Wilhelm Hansen, Edition·S and SNYK show that female composers are largely overlooked in Danish concert programmes where close to 95% of the works performed are written by men.
At Edition·S we are proud to include more and more female composers in our catalogue. We are still far from a gender-balanced list of published composers, but we are proud to represent works by a number of great female composers spanning a century: from Nancy Dalberg's 1915 String Quartet no.1 to a growing list of contemporary works.
