Educate·S - pieces for accordion

The educational anthology Educate·S - Pieces for Accordion was published in 2018. The publication was edited by Geir Draugsvoll, accordionist and professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music, and comprises works by Fuzzy, Bára Gísladóttir, Lars Hegaard, Jexper Holmen, Ejnar Kanding, Jesper Koch, Mette Nielsen, Svend Hvidtfelt Nielsen and Thomas Agerfeldt Olesen.

Simon Steen-Andersen: Asthma (2017) Accordion & video

Nicolai Worsaae: Upon Your Body I’m Crawling (2012) Accordion & harmonica 

Nicolai Worsaae’s (b. 1980) piece with the enticing title Upon Your Body I’m Crawling bears the playing instructions: “Groping. A bit unsecure.” The work engages with folk and modern conventions in a breathless one-man accordion-harmonica duet.  

Kasper Rofelt: Concert Studies for Classical Accordion (2008-2009) Accordion solo
The collection of concert studies exploits the technical potential of the accordion at a brand new level of virtuosity, and Kasper Rofelt deliberately guides our ears towards a universe that refers to  Ligeti’s ground-breaking way of using the piano in his technical and musical études based on a single musical idea.

Simon Steen-Andersen: Next to Beside Besides #3 + #12 (2003-2008) Amplified accordion
Next To Beside Besides is a series of ‘translations’ of the piece Beside Besides for solo cello, The translations take into account the parts of the original composition that were conceived of with a focus on the gestures of the movements producing the sound – a kind of choreographic translation.

Svend Aaquist: Saga Night (1992) Accordion solo

Svend Aaquist’s (b. 1948) Saga Night is dedicated to accordionist Geir Draugsvoll and inspired by the atmosphere of Nordic sagas and fairy tales.

Sven Erik Werner: 12 Tango Studies (1993) Accordion solo

Sven Erik Werner’s (b. 1937) 12 Tango Studies is dedicated to the students of the Danish Accordion Academy. The influence from Astor Piazolla is as Werner puts it: “obvious and inevitable.” 

Leif Kayser: Confetti (1974-1992)

The distinguished Danish composer Leif Kayser has written so many works for the classical accordeon. Confetti is a selction of 15 pieces of varying duration and difficulty, all depending on personal taste and inclination. They may be played as separate pieces or combined in small suites. Some of the pieces are more difficult than others, but all of them have one thing in common: good taste.
