TRIBUTES – Pulse. Official trailer out now!

For more than a year, American filmmaker Bill Morrison and Edition·S composer Simon Christensen have been working closely together on creating TRIBUTES - Pulse – a requiem for the 20th century. This is the official trailer - the spectacular live premiere screening is scheduled for June 16 at the Royal Playhouse in Copenhagen, featuring live music performance by Kundi Bombo. 75 years old avant-gardist performs at Roskilde Festival

Besides being an icon of avant-garde jazz 75 years old John Tchicai has marked through his entire career a written art music oeuvre developing a highly personal style combining composition and improvisation.Still going strong as a sax player on international tours Tchicai is also celebrated in his native country Denmark. This summer he enters the new Gloria stage at Roskilde Festival together with his experimental group ELEkTRO with whom he just has released a new album.

Ib Nørholm premieres new symphony

Now 80 years old but still an unchallenged master of the large scale symphony. Ib Nørholm celebrates the premiere of his twelfth symphony ‘Realities’ in Odense Concert House April 28 and 29. The new symphony is written for orchestra, soprano and tenor soloists. The ambiguous title is clearly referring to the three poets Thorkild Bjørnvig, Lene Henningsen and Inger Christensen whos lyrics form a poetic structure throughout the symphony.

3 Songs by Morten Olsen

Three new songs by composer Morten Olsen with lyrics by Søren Ulrik Thomsen was premiered by soprano Lona Mohr Villadsen at her debut from the Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts Southern Denmark on April 27. The concert will be held again on Saturday April 30 in Round Tower of Copenhagen. Morten Olsen’s ‘3 Songs’ are composed for soprano, oboe and harp in commission to Lona Mohr Villadsen.

Simon Steen-Andersen heads for New York

Internationally reknown composer, sound artist and performer Simon Steen-Andersen bites the big apple in April as his Study #2 for string quartet and Chambered Music for 12 instruments have their US premiere in NYC. This will happen when Steen-Andersen and his Belgian colleague Stefan Prins enter the two New York experimental ensembles Pamplemousse and Wet Ink with concerts April 26 and 30.

Rune Glerup and Athelas go to Monte Carlo

Sunday April 3 2011 Athelas plays at the spring festival Printemps des Arts in Monte Carlo in Monaco. Printemps des Arts is an international festival that runs over four weekends – this year from March 18 to April 11 2011 – and offers everything from Turkish dancing to Schumann’s chamber music performed by the greatest artists within classical music. The focus of the festival is diversity and dynamic and the events are held all over Monte Carlo including places like the Oceanographic Museum.

Tjørnhøj staged again in the US

The opera Stabat Mater by award winning composer and sound artist Line Tjørnhøj will be staged at the IAWM Congress 2011, which takes place September 15-18 in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA. Stabat Mater was premiered in Århus 2009 following up Line Tjørnhøj’s widely recognized opera Anorexia Sacra, which won the American Opera Vista Festival 2009.

Ilja Bergh performs at the IKK festival next week!

Composer and pianist Ilja Bergh will be performing in Copenhagen next week at the IKK Festival, an interdisciplinary festival for the centre of aesthetic studies at University of Copenhagen. Bergh has in connection with publishing his memoirs been invited to perform at the festival Thursday March 3 together with Esther Dischereit and to participate in an ‘Artist Talk’ Friday March 4.

Lars Kynde performs in Japan!

Lars Kynde is premiering a new computer motorized version of his performance piece Wandelende Tak at Tokyo Experimental Festival in Japan February 23-26. Wandelende Tak is composed in four movements, which will be performed over the four days by Toshie Takeuchi, Lasse Piasecki and Lars Kynde himself.

Unusual and intimate artist meeting in Århus - follow the blog!

British cello virtuoso and voice performer Zoë Martlew and Danish composer and performer Line Tjørnhøj engage in an unusual collaborative art music project as the creation of Tjørnhøj’s documentary opera monologue SPLIT begins in Århus on February 1st. The four-day open workshop shows the opening of a work-in-progress which will go on through most of 2011 and will result in the world premiere of the finished piece during the Copenhagen Wundergrund Festival in October.
