Icelandic-German Concert

The Icelandic Caput Ensemble performs an Icelandic-German concert, where Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Steingrimur Rohloff is on the programme.On Sunday March 17, 2013 the Nordic House in Reykjavík hosts an encounter between Icelandic and German culture with both culinary and musical experiences. The two-day conference is a kind of “meal between“, in a series of conferences discussing political, cultural, historical and industrial relations between the Nordic region and Germany.

The sun continues to shine and it shines a kind light on the many talented composers on the art music scene. Yesterday was the opening concert of PULSAR festival where the prestigious Ensemble Intercontemporain performed newly composed works by young Danish composers. Amongst those were Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Nicolai Worsaae who had his brand new work Zwischen den beiden Kammern premiered. A beautiful piece with a front stage and a back stage:

Rebecca’s Top Tips for Upcoming Performances

Rebecca Dawson is the new director at Edition·S, and as such is enjoying getting to know the many composers we publish and represent. She was attracted to join Edition·S by the tangible aesthetic diversity within its catalogue, and also by the strong presence of sound art, which is an art form not traditionally associated with an art music publisher. Also, her (barely concealed) love of Denmark, its culture and its truly collaborative spirit meant that the chance to work at Edition·S was far too good to refuse!

Simon Steen-Andersen Awarded the Carl Nielsen Prize

Yesterday it was announced that the renowned Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Simon Steen-Andersen is awarded the Carl Nielsen Prize in October 2013. The prize is a great honour and Simon receives 600.000 DKKr.The press release characterises Simon with the words:

Next week PULSAR Festival kicks off at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen with Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composers on the programme.The annual festival – for and by students – runs from March 7 to 14, 2013 in Copenhagen, Denmark and features eight days of music – 12 entirely free concerts, with international stars, Danish ensembles and music composed by promising young, Danish composers.

Kristeligt Dagblad Writes About Simon Steen-Andersen

Yesterday the Danish newspaper Kristeligt Dagblad published an article about Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Simon Steen-Andersen in connection to the announcement of him being the recipient of Berliner Künstpreis 2013.“With his visual sound worlds between composition, performance and installation Simon Steen-Andersen has taken Europe’s scenes for modern classical music the past couple of years.” Writes journalist Mathias Irminger Sonne.

Spanish Premiere of TRIBUTES - Pulse

Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer and percussionist Simon Christensen has collaborated with American filmmaker Bill Morrison onTRIBUTES – Pulse (2010-2011). The Spanish premiere takes place this weekend at the 2013 Punto de Vista International Documentary Film Festival of Navarra. Together the two explore the theme of "pulse" in both music and film - as a force that runs through life, civilization, and nature.

Ejnar Kanding Performance at VEGA

Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Ejnar Kanding collaborates with Frank Bretschneider (DE) at Lille VEGA in Copenhagen, February 28, 2013 at 9 pm. At this concert the audience has a chance to experience the unique result of collaboration between two composers from two different musical traditions, where electronica and ambient meet classical music.The music is performed by ensemble Contemporánea and released by Danish record label Dacapo Records on the album “Auxiliary Blue”. The album is launched at the concert.

“Pretty Sound” Nominated for Norwegian Grammy

Simon Steen-Andersen’s album ”Pretty Sound” recorded by the Norwegian ensemble asamisimasa is nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Spellemann 2012.The album was released on Dacapo Records in 2011 and was well received all over. The Danish newspaper Politiken’s Henrik Friis wrote: “With its three-dimensional sound production the CD is a deeply fascinating introduction to the young composer, who right now, more than any other in his generation, show us the way forward.”

Simon Steen-Andersen On Tour

Today saxophonist Patrick Stadler embarks on a tour around Switzerland with Simon Steen-Andersen’s De Profundis.From February 12 to 15, 2013 Patrick Stadler will perform three concerts with Simon Steen-Andersen’s solo work for soprano saxophone and percussion. First stop is Bern, then St. Gallen and finally Basel. The three concerts are a part of a concept named “The Sound of Strangers” that the duo Kociuban & Stadler tour with. Cellist Wiktor Kociuban forms the other part of the duo.

Flashback Friday February 8

We began this week with some experimenting concerts. The first one was during the VinterJazz festival in Copenhagen, where Edition·S – music¬sound¬art was the curator of one concert out of three as part of the official ILK Music line-up. Saturday night Simon Christensen performed the brand new work Feed Lifting Sound together with the vocal duo LIFT. The concert was a great success and night was definitely a “Feed Lifting” experience.Rudiger Meyer wrote about the concert:
