Black Box Music at Ultima

Primo September the Norwegian Festival Ultima is taking place in Oslo and Edition·S – music¬sound¬art can proudly announce that Simon Steen-Andersen’s new piece Black Box Music (2012) will be performed on the opening night of the festival.The prominent ensemble Oslo Sinfonietta and the Norwegian percussionist Håkon Stene will perform Black Box music. A piece that was premiered this July in Darmstedt during the International Ferienkurse Für Neue Music.

”Mood – Debussy and Langgaard” at Langgaard Festival 2012

The annual festival celebrating the music of Rued Langgaard is taking place between August 30 and September 2, 2012. This year’s festival focuses on the similarities between Langgaard and the French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918). Although they never actually met they shared some of the same visionary thoughts on music and life. Both composers were considered to be experimental in every perspective and the incompatible sounds of nature and machine resulted in an innovative melancholia in the works.

”The Golden Age of Danish Music”

Last week the Edition·S – music¬sound¬art office received an interesting parcel from the Royal Danish Embassy in Sofia, Bulgaria.When we opened the parcel we found a DVD and a thank you letter from the Danish ambassador Kaare E. Janson. The DVD shows Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra’s celebration of the Danish EU presidency in the form of a TV transmitted concert on May 3, 2012 at Bulgaria Hall.

The renowned Danish composer Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreen has for many years been published by two different publishing houses; Edition·S – music¬sound¬art and Edition Wilhelm Hansen. Now they have come to an agreement on gathering his works at one place.On the occasion of Gudmundsen-Holmgreen’s 80th birthday in November 2012, Edition·S, Wilhelm Hansen and the composer himself have agreed on the fact that Wilhelm Hansen will take over the works that have been published by Edition·S taking effect as from July 1, 2012.

Summer holiday & Farewell reception

It is officially summer! We've just experienced the longest day of the year and have many long summer nights in front of us.This means that the art music scene will go on holiday (except for Hindsgavl Festival July 8-19, 2012 with lots of Edition·S composers on the programme) and so will we. The office will be closed in weeks 29 and 30 (July 16-27) and we'll be back Monday July 30.

Christian Winther Christensen receives Schierbeck award

Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composer Christian Winther Christensen received the prestigious award from Poul and Sylvia Schierbeck tonight at the reception after the performance of Schierbeck’s only opera Fête Galante.The Schierbeck award is given to musicians, conductors and composers who contribute to sharing Poul Schierbeck’s music and support music theoretical works about Schierbeck.This year, the lucky receiver is Christian Winther Christensen, who was awarded 35.000 kr.

TRIBUTES – Pulse performed live in Washington

Next week Bill Morrison, Simon Christensen and his band Kundi Bombo travel to Washington DC where the collaborative art film will be performed live at the National Gallery of Art.TRIBUTES – Pulse is in the middle of a world tour. First it went to the Festival Du Nouveau Cinema in Montreal, followed by the International Film Festival Rotterdam, then Buenos Aires for the BAFICI festival and now it is time for Washington DC.
