A search for memories of sounds

The Belgium sound artist Stijn Demeulenaere and SNYK are in the middle of building a new installation called Soundtracks, and they need your help to finish it.The idea behind Soundtracks is to create an archive of memories of sounds. Soundtracks wants to research what kind of sounds are memorized and how they are memorized. Can we replay those sounds in our heads, or do we only remember the event of the situation; the contour of the sound?

Edition·S experiments with composer portraits

Edition·S – music¬sound¬art is experimenting with different ways of portraying our composers and artists.Last year, CEO Klaus Ib Jørgensen interviewed various guests, composers, musicians, arrangers etc. at the annual Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival with great success. The interviews were published as short podcasts on our Soundcloud profile.This year, Niels Rønsholdt has been so kind to let us use him as test case.

Line Tjørnhøj sound installation at Platform 4, Aalborg

The organisation and house ‘Platform 4’ in Aalborg, Denmark, is an independent user-driven multi-purpose venue that experiments within the art and technology frame. On May 31 to June 2 Edition·S will be represented at this venue by Line Tjørnhøj, with her installation work Portrait – between child and adult, a collaboration between Tjørnhøj, digital media artist Signe Klejs and anthropologist Birgitte Stampe.

Ib Nørholm Premiere at the Carl Nielsen International Music Competition

Next week the annual Carl Nielsen competition sets off in Odense, Denmark, during which violinists of all nationalities under the age of 30 will be contesting.In the second round the competitors will be performing renowned composer Ib Nørholm’s piece Ménage à trois, composed specially for the competition. Menage à trois is a humoristic observation of a musician, his violin and the bow, for unaccompanied violin.

Nordic Darkness and Electric Light

Nordic Darkness and Electric Light is the poetic title of a concert in Paris next week, which is part of the annual Festival Extension for new music and sound art. The concert is a meeting between the French Ensemble Aleph and the Swedish ensemble Curious Chamber Players, and on the programme is a number of Swedish, French, Spanish, Romanian and Danish composers.

Danish premiere of Line Tjørnhøj opera

Line Tjørnhøj’s award-winning opera Anorexia Sacra was called a masterpiece at the premiere in Houston, Texas in 2009. The opera now stand before its Danish premiere at the Dagmar800 Festival.

Zoë Martlew cabaret performance

SNYK and the alternative concert organisation Re:sonans invite you to a unique concert experience at a very special venue: the floating café Kayak Republic, Copenhagen. Our DIVA artist-in-residence Zoë Martlew will perform for the first time some of her latest cabaret numbers written during her stay in Denmark. It will be a small half hour set.

Line Tjørnhøj installation in Lithuania

The festival season is upon us, and this means a performance calendar that is a bit more packed than usual for our composers. The next festival in line is the Druskomanija Festival for contemporary music, which will take place in three different locations in Lithuania: The picturesque resort town of Druskininkai, the capital Vilnius and the Holy Trinity Church in Liškiava.

Abyss music and Gothic accordion

Mariana Trench – tales from the abyss is the title of a concert with music for accordion and electronics, which will take place next week on Thursday May 3 at LiteraturHaus, Copenhagen.The concert is a preliminary culmination on accordionist Frode Andersen's attempt to let the role of the musician and that of the composer intersect. As a musician he has often taken part in the creation of music, and at this concert he will make his debut as a composer.

Klejs & Rønsholdt installation work at CLICK Festival

When the only one year old new media arts festival CLICK starts in Elsinore next week, it will be with a new installation and performance work by the artist duo Klejs & Rønsholdt on the programme. The new work is called SKIN and will be presented at the festival on May 3-5 as part of a workshop, which is a collaboration between The Culture Yard in Elsinore, the art and technology center 3LD from New York, and Edition·S – music¬sound¬art.
