Dust Encapsulated – Rune Glerup portrait CD

Dacapo Records have released a fine portrait CD of Rune Glerup's music. The cover by Denise Burt refers to Rune's now well established technique of working with musical 'objects' in which he abandons traditional approaches to musical narrative:It's almost a physical experience of walking around among a lot of different musical objects without having any direction.

Kasper Rofelt is the recipient of a Sonning Scholarship

Congratulations to Kasper Rofelt on becoming one of the 2014 Léonie Sonning Scholars.The prestigious Sonning Music Prize has been awarded to luminaries such as Pierre Boulez, Gyorgy Ligeti, Kaija Saariaho and Arvo Pärt. In addition, the foundation also awards grants in order to further the artistic development of young composers, conductors, musicians or singers from Denmark and the other Nordic counties. It is one of these scholarships, which cannot be applied for, that Kasper Rofelt has been awarded.

"Composer" – a documentary by Ida Bach Jensen

"Composer" is a documentary by Ida Bach Jensen featuring Simon Steen-Andersen, Eva Noer Kondrup and Henriette Groth. The film aims at giving insights into the creative processes of these three composers. It takes a look at how inspiration, material, chaos and craft are brought together to form three very particular forms of artistic expression. The film was premiered on 18 December 2013 and will be shown again at the Valby Kino, Copenhagen on 4 February 2014. The three composers will be present for an 'artist talk' with the director after the screening.

Exciting news for Rune Glerup

To compliment the coming release of his CD on Dacapo Records, Rune Glerup has received a new commission from IRCAM in Paris.The composer’s work often utilises the possibilities offered by electronics in conjunction with live instrumentalists and so this newly commissioned work for clarinet, string quartet, and electronics, which will be worked on whilst in residence at the venerable centre for electronic music this year, is an opportunity to further his practice in this avenue following earlier studies there.

Langgaard String Quartets Vol. 2

It is probably fair to say that the Nightingale String Quartet took the musical world a little by surprise when they released their first volume of the string quartets of Rued Langgaard last year. Amongst the overwhelmingly positive critical and public reception, the San Francisco Chronicle proclaimed: 'Simply breathtaking. I can't wait for the next release.' Well, the wait is over!

This Saturday November 30 sees the Danish Composers' Society present a further event celebrating their 100th anniversary. Spread over multiple studios at the Concerthuset, Copenhagen, the Danish Radio Sinfonietta leads the evening where everything from conventional instrumental music is heard alongside electronic-based pieces and broader multimedia oriented works.

Simon Christensen's new movie project: Mail

Alongside his unmistakable instrumental works, Simon Christensen has in recent years found his stride writing pieces utilising video and projection. Most notably, in 2011, his collaboration with the filmmaker Bill Morrison, TRIBUTES – Pulse, with its sepia conjunction of deteriorating film compiled by Morrison and Christensen's pulse-led music, met critical acclaim and has since been heard worldwide.
