Modern Gesamtkunstwerk in Münster

"The Soul has two eyes: One looking through time and one looking into eternity". This ambiguous quote by poet Angelus Silesius could be the motto for the experimental musical theatre performance 'Timeshift... oder Die Zeit ist ein Vogel', which was premiered December 4 on Städtische Bühne Münster featuring music by Steingrimur Rohloff and three other young composers. Text, music, visual projections and motion are here brought into play in a modern Gesamtkunstwerk with the plot creating different imaginary possible memory worlds.

TRIBUTES - Pulse selected for IFF Rotterdam

The art music and film project TRIBUTES - Pulse has been selected for The International Film Festival Rotterdam 2012, which is taking place January 25 to February 5. TRIBUTES - Pulse was created in 2010-11 by composer Simon Christensen and filmmaker Bill Morrison as a remix of art film, music and sound production. The title refers to the work as a tribute to the four american composers Charles Ives, Conlon Nancarrow, Steve Reich and Trent Reznor.

Snow Mask Ensemble feat. Line Tjørnhøj

The group Snow Mask Ensemble will on December 4 be performing a series of works by Line Tjørnhøj, Niels Christian Rasmussen and four other Aarhus based composers. Most of the works are world premieres at this concert and among them is Line Tjørnhøj’s Dies Irae for flute, clarinet and trombone. “Dies Irae” is latin and means “the day of anger” or “day of judgement”, referring to a famous medieval hymn, which has become a central part of the liturgical requiem text.

Anne La Berge reflects on her visit in Denmark

Jexper Holmen speaking about his future works

“It’s just a small advertisement for what will happen next year,” Jexper Holmen says of the work for clarinet, string trio and analogue ring modulator, which premiered at London Sinfonietta’s Sonic Explorations event in October. FIGURA performs in Oslo

FIGURA Ensemble are on their way to Norway participating in the concert series POTETlyd at Ny Musikk in Oslo. In the morning on November 14 FIGURA gives an open rehearsal with Nicolai Worsaae’s new piece Wesenheit ab Wesenheit for clarinet, double bass, percussion and mezzo soprano, a piece which will have it’s first performance at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival in England later this month.

November 14 the Malmö based Ensemble Ars Nova holds the Swedish first performance of Nicolai Worsaae’s Emphatische Ellipse for chamber ensemble and electronics at a concert also featuring Simon Steen-Andersen’s Chambered Music. The latter furthermore in a certain abstract way approaches the theme for the evening’s concert ‘Behind Bars’, which is ‘politically induced house arrest’.

Morten Olsen in prominent Swiss festival

Two chamber works by Morten Olsen will be travelling to Switzerland next week to be performed as part of the Tage für Neue Musik in Zürich, one of central Europe's most prominent festivals for contemporary music.Here too, in the heart of Switzerland, Danish composers have a rising star. Last year the ambiguous music of Christian Winther Christensen, which was played at the festival, left a lasting impression.
