Allow me a personal testimony here in the news column: When I was first appointed president of Edition·S (then Edition Samfundet, i.e. The Society for the Publication of Danish Music) in 1993, one of my first official duties was to inspect the remote stock room. I was still very young and easy to impress – and impressed I was when I entered the 4,000 square feet basement room with printed music from floor to ceiling.

Two Simon Steen-Andersen premieres in Witten, Germany

The annual festival Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik is taking place next weekend, April 27 - 29, in Witten an der Ruhr, Germany, and on the festival programme are two new works by Simon Steen-Andersen: a new video installation Obstruction Studies, and his String Quartet #2 for strings with prepared and amplified bows. Both works will have its premiere during the festival.

Suså Festival 2012 programme made public

Today the full Suså Festival 2012 programme was made public. Again this year, Edition·S – music¬sound¬art composers are on it. The festival runs from August 31 to September 2, 2012 in Næstved, Denmark.The Suså Festival is an annual meeting place for serious contemporary music; a “golden meeting” of composers, audiences and players; three intense days featuring seven prominent soloists and ensembles from at home and abroad, a lyrics and music show, and a fascinating meet-the-composer event.

A Busy Spring for Edition·S Composers

This spring is in the name of Edition·S and our composers, who are performed and premiered at all the important festivals.To mention a few…Simon Steen-Andersen travels to Germany where he has a video installation and string quartet at the festival Wittener Tage Für Neue Kammermusik, which runs from April 27 to 29.Klejs & Rønsholdt open CLICK! Festival May 3 with the performance installation SKIN, which is part of their soon-to-come LoveRacer work.

Edition·S and SPOR festival join forces

In May 2012 the annual festival for contemporary music SPOR kicks off its 8th festival. This year Edition·S joins the festival in a partnership.SPOR festival is held in Aarhus, Denmark, for the contemporary music and sound art scene. SPOR started in 2005 under the leadership of Thomas Agerfeld Olsen with the composer Niels Rønsholdt as curator. In June 2007, Anne Marqvardsen and Anna Berit Asp Christensen took over as the directors of the festival.

Ole Schmidt premiere next week

Ten years after its creation Ole Schmidt's Concerto for Clarinet and Chamber Orchestra is now to be premiered by Randers Chamber Orchestra and soloist John Kruse. The concert has been entitled ”Powerful orchestra colours” and will also contain works by no other than Mozart and Stravinsky.

Two composers to be artistic managers of new music ensemble

The leading Danish ensemble for new music Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen has just announced a new Artistic Management to be engaged from May 1. Three profiles has been chosen to define the ensemble: The present Chief Conductor Pierre-André Valade and the two young composers Rune Glerup and Christian Winther Christensen.

Positive reviews of Rued Langgaard CD

In today's issue of the Danish newspaper Politiken music critic Henrik Friis gives five out of six hearts to the recently released album String Quartets Vol. 1 with Rued Langgaard works interpreted by the young Nightingale String Quartet. Friis titles his review "Langgaard's devil-may-care authority", and he says about the album:

Im Rauschen premiered by ensemble recherche in Freiburg

Simon Steen-Andersen's new piece Im Rauschen for flute, oboe, clarinet and miniature speakers is premiered by ensemble recherche at the Morat Institute in Freiburg, Germany, on Wednesday March 14 as a part of the concert series entitled Die Zukunft beginnt um 19.15 Uhr! (The future begins at 7.15 pm!). The piece is commissioned by the ensemble, and on the concert programme is also German composer Wolfgang Riehm's Fremde Szenen I-III from 1984.

Two festivals to present works by Simon Steen-Andersen

Simon Steen-Andersen is getting a lot of international attention these days. On March 9 a number of his works will be featured at two festivals: Oslo Screen Festival and Biennale Musiques en Scène (Music on Stage Biennial) in Lyon.
