A Fascination with Music Boxes

Jexper Holmen is a composer intrigued by the extremes. He is known for composing music that fits into three categories: pre-catastrophic, catastrophic and post-catastrophic works. On top of it all, he has a fascination with music boxes. E·S did a quick'n'dirty interview with him about his and accordionist Frode Andersen's latest work Alnitak for 72 participants, 60 music boxes and 12 accordions. The work is premiered on May 26 during one of this month's many festivals, KLANG.Can you shortly describe the work?

CLICK Festival

From May 8 to 12, 2013 The Culture Yard in Elsinore hosts a festival of new media art. In that connection Edition·S – music¬sound¬art duo Klejs & Rønsholdt has created an installation version of the work Racer.CLICK Festival is a part of the newly founded Culture Yard in Elsinore. The Culture Yard consists of Elsinore's main library full of modern facilities, a large and a small stage, the Yard Museum, exhibition hall, eatery, arcade, meeting facilities and workshops.

SPOR Festival 2013

Thursday May 2, 2013 The Royal Danish Academy of Music will host an event marking the opening of the world’s first Music Confucius Institute and Edition·S – music¬sound¬art is on the programme.From April 30 through May 4, 2013 The Royal Danish Academy of Music will host a delegation of Chinese musicians in connection with the opening concert of the Music Confucius Institute – a meeting between Danish and Chinese music and culture.

100 years of music in one day

On Saturday May 4the Danish Composer’s Society celebrates its 100th anniversary. Founded in 1913 it is Scandinavia’s oldest association for professional composers and sound artists.

Oration – an operatic pamphlet on being human

About a year ago the Danish composer Line Tjørnhøj was given the opportunity to have a small work performed at the prestigious Center for Contemporary Opera (CCO) in New York. After a lot of hard work and fundraising, the opera Mirandolas, Oration is now planned to have its world premiere this summer.

Ejnar Kanding On Tour

Next week the Danish composer Ejnar Kanding will embark on a tour with the Berlin-based Ensemble Adapter.From April 25 to June 2, 2013 it will be possible to experience Ejnar Kanding’s work Stillstehen in both Denmark and Germany. The work was originally composed in 2009, but never had its premiere and will now be performed in a new version from 2011.

We’re in the midst of planning our future and it looks bright and prosperous.Monday we met with our composer Morten Olsen and our colleagues at Dacapo Records, who have an album coming out soon with a brand new project called Be my quiet friend. Steingrimur Rohloff Premiere
11. April 2013
On April 20, 2012 the prestigious Ensemble Modern premieres the second of two major works for sinfonietta composed by the Icelandic-born Steingrimur Rohloff.Ensemble Modern Akademie commissioned Steingrimur’s Colonies for their 10th anniversary in collaboration with the national German radio Deutschland Rundfunk. The work will be premiered Saturday April 20 at 8 pm at DLF-Forum neuer Musik.

Flashback Friday April 5

This week and the one before that we have had a little Easter focus on C.E.F. Weyse. His biography has been updated, his works have been #ScoreOfTheWeek on our Twitter profile and a short article has been written. Weyse was the man who refined the Danish lieder genre and Edition·S have published two volumes of his songs with piano. His music matches the sunny spring weather and the Easter holidays.

Article: C.E.F. Weyse (1774 – 1842)

Christoph Ernst Friedrich Weyse was the first composer of the Danish Golden Age and possibly the greatest. In Denmark he was a very recognized composer in his time and still is up to this day. To mark Easter we would like to draw attention to Weyse with this short article.
