Simon Steen-Andersen special guest composer at PULSAR 2011

The PULSAR Festival for contemporary music in Copenhagen this year features as guest composer the highly topical Simon Steen-Andersen in two concerts at the Royal Danish Academy of Music. Simon Steen-Andersen's music can be heard at the opening concert Friday March 11 at 7.30 PM and again Sunday March 13 at 7.30 PM.

Ilja Bergh performs at the IKK festival next week!

Composer and pianist Ilja Bergh will be performing in Copenhagen next week at the IKK Festival, an interdisciplinary festival for the centre of aesthetic studies at University of Copenhagen. Bergh has in connection with publishing his memoirs been invited to perform at the festival Thursday March 3 together with Esther Dischereit and to participate in an ‘Artist Talk’ Friday March 4.

Lars Kynde performs in Japan!

Lars Kynde is premiering a new computer motorized version of his performance piece Wandelende Tak at Tokyo Experimental Festival in Japan February 23-26. Wandelende Tak is composed in four movements, which will be performed over the four days by Toshie Takeuchi, Lasse Piasecki and Lars Kynde himself.

Unusual and intimate artist meeting in Århus - follow the blog!

British cello virtuoso and voice performer Zoë Martlew and Danish composer and performer Line Tjørnhøj engage in an unusual collaborative art music project as the creation of Tjørnhøj’s documentary opera monologue SPLIT begins in Århus on February 1st. The four-day open workshop shows the opening of a work-in-progress which will go on through most of 2011 and will result in the world premiere of the finished piece during the Copenhagen Wundergrund Festival in October.

Li-Ying Wu awarded the prestigious Bisballe Prize

Li-Ying Wu is this year's winner of the 10,000 Euro Bisballe Prize; one of the significant awards for young artists in Denmark. It's given every year to an artist whose talent, sense of innovation and of breaking new ground reach far beyond the recogition they have so far recevied from a broader public. Artists who, in spite of their emerging status and young age, have already created significant works.

Simon Steen-Andersen featured on Ultraschall!

Simon Steen-Andersen is one of the most successful Danish composers of his generation, with numerous performances and commissions from around the world. Next week, Simon is featured composer on the Berlin Ultraschall Festival (January 21-30) with eight performances distributed over four concerts, of which one is dedicated exclusively to his music.

Ib Nørholm 80 this month – loads of concerts nationwide!

Grand old man of Danish contemporary music, Ib Nørholm, turns 80 on January 24th. Danish music life is celebrating this event with concerts all over the country, especially in January-February, but also later throughout the year. Several orchestral premieres are on the program. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, IB!

Jexper Holmen appointed composer-in-residence in Huddersfield 2011-12!

The 39 year old composer was featured at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival hcmf// already in 2010 and delivered a convincing success with the performance of 40 minute long Oort Cloud for soprano saxophone, two accordions and amplification. Jexper Holmen's appearance was covered by the Guardian.

Line Tjørnhøj premiere next week

Line Tjørnhøj's new work for acting double-bass player and electronics will be partly premiered as Irina-Kalina Goudeva plays two out of three movements on her Crush Festival appearance on Saturday November 27 at 18.30. The new work, entitled He, Whom My Heart Loves has three movements, Crow, My Beloved and Shadow.

Christian Winther Christensen on Tage für Neue Music in Zürich

Christian Winther Christensen has several works on the program of this year's Tage für neue Musik in Zürich. The festival takes place 10-14 November and also features the Danish ensemble Athelas who will give the world premiere of Christensen's new piece Festmusik - mit japanischem Geist und deutschem Akzent (2010). The program also presents A Fall from the Perfect Ground (2004-06); a work which has established itself as one of the most successful pieces by the 33 year old composer.

Rune Glerup’s new piano concerto to be premiered

Rune Glerup is a present working at IRCAM in Paris, but will make a short trip back to Copenhagen on November 13, as his new Piano Concerto is being premiered by the National Concervatory Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marc Soustrot. Piano soloist is Bendik Båtstrand.

Li-Ying Wu in official debut November 7

The Taiwanese-Danish composer Li-Ying Wu will be celebrating her official debut as composer in a concert on The Royal Danish Academy of Music Sunday November at 2pm.Two spectacular works will see their world premiere, performed by the Århus Sinfonietta under the baton of Søren K. Hansen: Before the Veil for ensemble and the melodrama Limbo; the former inspired by the Taiwanese landscape of Li-Ying’s childhood; the latter based on the novel by the same name by the Danish author Ole Sarvig.

Simon Steen-Andersen in Donaueschinger world premiere 17 October

Double Up, Simon Steen-Andersen's new work work for sampler and chamber orchestra, is a commission from the Donaueschinger Musiktage. The work will be premiered by the Radio Kammerphilharmonie Hilversum, conducted by Peter Eötvös. Dust encapsulates the Nordic region…

Rune Glerup's Dust Encapsulated#2 is being performed as the Nordic Runway Project is touring the Nordic countries next week. It’s the Swedish ensemble Curious Chamber Players who has programmed the piece for this special concert project, which puts a new perspective on the concert form and includes elements from the fashion world and the choreographical aspect of performing.
